Urban development is an important approach to revitalize regional economy at the initial stage of rapid economic growth in current China. Guided by this development idea, many local governments pay attention to only immediate interests but overlook long-term plans.Without a good understanding of the protection for some cultural architectural heritages, they have caused irreversible damages to historical buildings in the mass-demolishment and mass-construction wave in urban construction. As a result, modernized cities with single style but nothing special are constructed, with all cities looking the same. In view of this, it is essential to organically combine urban development with historical culture and take advantage of urban culture to promote the overall image of cities, thus achieving cities' sound and sustainable development.Based on the theory of cultural memory, this paper presents the status quo of the memory loss of urban architectural culture and quotes the viewpoint “memory field” in cultural memory. It first analyzes the reasons for the memory loss of architectural culture. By discussing the relationship between architectural culture and cultural memory, it proposes an innovative method of reconstructing architectural culture and makes specific strategies for the reconstruction of architectural culture, with an aim of effectively inheriting architectural culture. Finally, according to case analysis of Haizhou Ancient City, it points out existing problems and puts forward solutions to these problems.
