The smart grid is the project which is key supported by national. The smart substation, as the important support of smart grid, occupies a very important position. Through the research and analysis of the development status of the smart substation developed at home and abroad, found that the current testing tools are mostly for electronic transformer, merging unit, protection device, terminal device and other devices for the equipment monomer test. These equipment monomer tests can only complete the examination of the hardware and software functions of the equipment, and can not fully reflect the real situation of smart substation. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the research of the system level testing methods and testing tools from the overall point of view, and establish the evaluation system of the overall performance and function of the smart substation.This paper firstly analyses the basic functions and technical requirements of electronic transformer, merging unit, protection and monitoring device and intelligent terminal, and according to the corresponding test specification, The main testing contents, testing methods and testing process of each equipment are studied and analyzed by the corresponding testing tools. The monomer test is used to guarantee the correctness of the communication protocol, the subscription information and the function of device itself, but the monomer test of any equipment can not reflect the overall performance of the system, so it is necessary to do further research and analysis on intelligent substation testing. To this end, the function of intelligent substation is decomposed, which is intended to study the logical relations functional components, and the information exchange and function performance among different functional components are expressed by the logical node and data stream. The information model is defined the abstract semantics and syntax of information exchange,through the abstract communication service interface(ACSI)and the specific communication service mapping(SCSM) map to the application layer of the OSI communication model, to realize the network transmission of equipment data. In order to realize the interoperability and seamless connection among the intelligent electronic devices produced by different manufacturers, the equipment and system are unified is uniformly configured by the substation configuration language(SCL). It is verified whether the information exchange and the clock synchronization of each equipment in the system can meet the design requirements, through the network system performance test and clock synchronization system performance test.Before the test of intelligent substation system, it is necessary to check the connection of the equipments in smart substation, and the sampling value loop and the protection of the whole set of linkage are briefly tested. Then the simulated operation of the substation primary equipment draw support from the RTDS real-time simulation technology, through the power amplifier, collector, the switch conversion device and other interface equipments,and forms a closed loop system with the secondary system of smart substations. Finally, according to the actual project needs, the substation primary system of the RTDS simulation is improved technologically. Owing to the defects of the current system test which needs a variety of testing tools to complete, and the needs of the previous discussed technology and program, the integrated test platform that set a variety of testing functions is introduced. The integrated test platform and intelligent substation secondary system, through the equipment interface, connected into closed loop test system. In the case of injecting network background traffic, the closed loop test of relay protection system is carried out to verify the validity of the test platform and test plan, which provides a reference for the test technology of the smart substation.
