Advanced application of smart substation is one of the most important featuresthat differ from digital substation’s and is of great significance for the constructionof strong smart grid. With smart substations’ mass commissioning, advancedapplication functions, such as sequence control, substation area protection andcontrol, and intelligent alarm, will be gradually put into practical engineeringapplication in the future. But the necessary functional testing should be made toensure the safe and stable operation of power system before the equipments are hungon the grid to run according to the requirements of the power grid operation and therelevant provisions. Effective test plans have not yet formed for advancedapplication functions of smart substation at present, and real-time closed-loopsimulation based on the whole station scale is also scarce. So it is necessary toresearch and develop testing system of advanced application functions, and testthem before they come into the grid.In this paper, the optimal configuration mode of advanced application of smartsubstation based on the integrated supervision and control system was firstly studied,aiming at the configuration status and development trend of advanced application.And the paper took sequence control as the research object and structured unifiedmodel for sequence control function according to DL/T860standards. At the sametime, an information exchange service model based on Data Server’s sending backGOOSE message was presented. Whereby, the paper completed the standardizationof sequence control function and realized the interchangeability in modules fromdifferent manufacturers, which provides a reference for the project of futureadvanced application modularization. Secondly, as the existing model library ofRTDS is lack of fiber optical current transformer (FOCT) model and the accuratesimulation for FOCT’s characteristics with its related simulation tests cannot berealized, the paper studied and established the RTDS-based real-time dynamicsimulation model of FOCT and found the scope of the initial phase retardation of λ/4wave plate that can compensate the temperature error. And the simulation resultsshow that the real-time dynamic simulation model of FOCT built in this paper isreasonable and can simulate the temperature characteristic in steady state of FOCTeffectively. What’s more, its transient characteristic is not bad. It is useful for furtherstudy of FOCT’s performance and testing for smart substation’s correlativeequipments. After that, this paper set up RTDS-based power system models of thewhole substations. And the networks were established for secondary equipments of smart substation based on DL/T860and related principles of State Grid. And theinterface mode between RTDS and secondary equipments was reasonably designed.After that the platform for testing advanced application of smart substation has beenbuilt. What’s more, the strategy for advanced application test was formulatedaccording to the two standards Q/GDW383-2009and Q/GDW678-2011.Then acomplete testing system was born.Finally, this article tested some domestic well-known manufacturer’s advancedapplication that has been put into engineering by the testing system above. The testproves that the system for testing advanced application built in this article is valid,and standardized interface mode between the layers of the test platform helps toincrease the test intervals and related equipments, which makes the platform has agood scalability. At the same time, the process layer of this platform will besimplified greatly with the improvement of interoperability between GTNET anddomestic Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) of smart substation and the platformhas the upgradeability.
