Since PTA has become the main raw material of chemical fiber industry, its production equipment named PTA compressor has received increasing attention. Given the heavy weight, long span, high rotation speed, and complex conditions of PTA compressor, lateral-torsional vibration will seriously harm the long term security and stability of the compressor unit. Therefore, dynamic analysis of the whole system is particularly important. This paper chooses Shenyang Blower Works Group Corporation Yangzi PTA compressor (PA3 rotor system) as the research object. The dynamic model and the finite element model are established by finite element analysis software ANSYS and Matlab. Vibration response characteristic analysis of the PA3 rotor system is conducted a detailed study, to improve the product reliability and security. The main contents are as follows:(1) The finite element model of the PA3 rotor system is established by ANSYS and Matlab, and the natural frequencies of the system are calculated. The accuracy and reliability of the model are verified by contrast.(2) Harmonic balance method (HBM) is derived to solve the differential equations of motion of the coupled gear-bearing rotor system. With the ASME model as an example, the numerical results of HBM, Newmark-? method and reference are consistent, which illustrate the feasibility and significant improvement in calculation time of HBM.(3) The unbalance vibration response characteristic of the PA3 rotor system is analyzed. In accordance with AP1617 standard, the system critical speed is checked, and the margin of the isolation is calculated.(4) The vibration response characteristics of the PA3 rotor system are analyzed under the unbalance, static transmission error and gear eccentricity conditions. The influence of various factors on the system vibration is obtained by contrast.
