With the processing problem of the gear with fewer number teeth, the new processing method of involute gear and a new profile gear with fewer teeth is studied. In order to contrast the gear with different parameters and different profile, a testing device is designed to test the performance of different gears. The main research work are as follows:The gear with fewer number teeth is taken as the research object. The precise two-dimensional models and three-dimensional models of the gear with two to six teeth are established,which include the involute gear and the deformation of the involute gear. Cross section equation of the forming cutter of the involute gear with fewer number teeth is deduced. The model of the forming cutter is established in the 3D software, and the simulation of machining gear with 2 teeth in the 3D software is successful. The method that using the hob with straight tooth profile to process the gear with arbitrary profile is proposed. The motion equations of the gear and the hob are deduced. This method provides a theoretical reference for gear machining by the hob with straight tooth profile. The parameters of the gear pair needed in the test are designed. Parameters of the hob with straight tooth profile and the hob with new profile are calculated, and the hob drawings are plotted. In the process of the gear machining, the processing parameters are determined. Through adjusting the parameters, the gear with different modification coefficient can be made by the same hob. At the same time, the influence of coefficient of tip clearance on the performance of fewer teeth number gear pair transmission is analyzed. The testing device of the gear with fewer teeth is designed and built, which is ready for the gear test.
