With the acceleration of China's urbanization and modernization, lighting equipments in cities are also developing rapidly. Urban lighting plays an important role in ensuring transport and security in cities. However, it may cause a huge waste of energy due to the unreasonable design and planning, undue pursuit of high brightness, or the outdated lamp control system. As nowadays much more attention has been attracted to energy saving, the Green Lighting Project has been listed as one of the Ten National Energy-saving Projects. In Chinese lighting market, conventional gas-discharge lighting still accounts for a large proportion, such as high pressure sodium lamps, high pressure mercury lamps, fluorescent lights, etc. Therefore, it is of great necessity to promote new energy-saving lamps on one hand, and on the other, to develop new energy-saving control system of the traditional lighting lamps.Based on the analysis of the present situation and development of domestic technology on energy saving street lamps, the thesis puts forward an intelligent street light energy-saving control system on the basis of the GPRS wireless communication technology. After a detailed analysis of system performance index and control requirements, the thesis determines the voltage regulation technique and the communication mode applied in this system.The hardware of the system applies MCU as the core while GPRS as the means of communication. They are also combined with external storage, voltage and current measurement, a human-machine interaction module and an input/output interface, which constitute the lower computer control system. Receiving data from the lower computer, the host computer performs electric parameter calculation and light switch algorithm, and remotely controls through the main control interface.Through the joint test of the system hardware and software, and by doing the anti-interference testing and analyzing the experimental data, the thesis proves that the system achieves significant effect in energy-saving by comparison.In the final part, the thesis summarizes the accomplishments on this subject, and analyzes the deficiency of the system. Furthermore, it also demonstrates where might be improved in the future research.
