Concrete rock-fill dam is one of the four types of super- High Dam. During the construction of Hydropower Station, the face rolling of concrete rock-fill dam is a very important part, compactness is an important feature in measurement of rolling quality. If concrete rock-fill dam locates in the narrow river course between high mountains, commonly used GPS rolling information monitoring system will produce large positioning error, low precision or even unable to position. In order to solve this problem, a total-station-based rolling information monitoring scheme is proposed after comprehensive analysis of total station performance with construction site situation is considered.The total-station-based rolling information monitoring scheme adopts modular design, it consists of three parts: real-time data collection of rolling information, data transmission system and monitor & control center. The object of the monitoring system is the rolling machine working in the process of dam rolling. The content of rolling information monitoring system includes programmable rolling surface, running speed of rolling machine in open state, trajectory of rolling, and exciting force working state, etc. The system will show elevation, times of rolling and compacted thickness on the client according to the monitoring record. When speed or excitation force of a roller is abnormal, the system will trigger an alarm to monitor the rolling quality information.The system is being used in project construction. When the satellite signal is not good enough, the system could schedule the total station in a timely, accurate and reliable way. Based on the analysis of monitoring data, the system could ensure high-speed, high-precision real-time auto monitoring of dam's rolling process. It can overcome the shortcoming of GPS in canyon river such as low positioning precision or even unable to position, provide data information and technical support for project construction, control construction quality truly and objectively, ensure the construction quality of dam.
