With the Green Building Evaluation Criteria came into operation during the recent years,a few industries related to Green Building had developed rapidly. There are a complete industry chain about the R&D production, design, consultation and evaluation of Green Building. However, most of the Green Buildings currently use active energy saving technology, which cost a lot on equipment and operation. According to the statistics, until 2015, almost 50% of Green buildings are located in five provinces with stronger economy in China. It means there is a big regional difference of green buildings around the whole China. In order to push the all-round development of the green building in our country, we currently need to vigorously develop green buildings with low cost, which is designed by architects on the base of reasonable architectural design, dedicating to achieve the sustainable development of passive green building. On the topic of the passive green buildings in Guangzhou University, this paper discussed deeply about the passive design strategies for areas in Guangzhou. Through investigation and analysis of climate and hydrological conditions in Guangzhou as well as construction energy consumption, we can know that construction energy consumption has significant climate adaptation, and large saving potential of air conditioning and lighting energy. In view of this phenomenon, this paper presents passive design principles of reducing building heat, accelerating construction heat and making full use of daylighting. Besides, it also introduces some passive design strategies. The design concept focuses on passive green building and makes the active energy-saving technology as a supplement. During the design process of passive green building for Guangzhou University laboratory, we use theoretical calculation combined with computer software simulation analysis method, using Ecotect, PHOENICS to draw detailed qualitative and quantitative conclusions on site planning, best orientation selection, natural ventilation design, natural lighting design, shading design and so on. According to the conclusions of analysis, after completion of architectural design, in order to make sure the result are prospective,we judge ventilation, lighting and shading effect by computer simulation software for scientific verification. In order to verify that the scheme is reasonable, this paper presents the assessment during planning and design process, combined with Green Building Evaluation Criteria GB/T50378-2014. The assessment strongly proves that the project of passive green building for Guangzhou University lab has the potential of reaching three-star green building standards. The study idea is based on the principles of theory to practice, from a conceptual idea to a practical ideology down to the practical design conclusion. This research is a suggestive one in the sense that it reflects an solution for passive buliding designs in Guangzhou area.
