China International Practical Exhibition Architecture has invited the Green Architecture Research Center to design a low-energy house for the exhibition. Based on the design of the house in the region of Foshou Lake of Nanjing city , the research was based on passive building design strategies.Firstly, a study was conducted on the climate and geology conditions of the region of Foshou Lake, and then investigated the problem of the high-energy used for cooling in summer and heating in winter. The research further trimmed down the general theory of passive building design into two directions——passive cooling and passive heating, from abundant relative literature reading and case study.Secondly, the design strategies, which can give attention to the climate and geology conditions of the region and several key factors, such as the sunpath, the form , the space and the skin were collated on the basis of the research and experiments with the concepts and analysis on the potential and the problems associated with passive design strategies. The study idea is based on the principles of theory to practice, from a conceptual idea to a practical(real) ideology down to the practical design conclusion. This research and study provided an opportunity to develop a practical research programmer structure in the form of ideal passive design model. This passive design idea is a suggestive one in the sense that it reflects an ideal solution to basic ecological designs goals.
