Study On Landscape Renewal Design Of Five Avenue Historic District In Tianjin

As time passed by, the colony of the former British Concession in Tianjin has gradually evolved into five major historical blocks with unique historical significance and value. The landscapes within these blocks have made platforms available for exchanging and integrating Chinese and Western cultures, thereby playing exemplary roles in development of contemporary urban landscapes in Tianjin.At first, redesigned theories about historical blocks are summed up in this paper to provide design basis and theoretical foundation for subsequent research. By tracing back to the landscape development in five major historical blocks of Tianjin, formation process and classification of landscapes within the blocks are analyzed. Landscape elements and forms of these five major historical blocks are illustrated. Meanwhile, existing landscapes inside the blocks are investigated, analyzed and studied, to prepare a certain amount of charts and analyze the problems such as disorderly layout of landscape space, backward street facilities and scarce variety of plants. Current landscapes of those five major blocks are evaluated and analyzed from multiple perspectives, including plants, small-scale facilities, road pavements and architecture. In combination with updated successful cases about historical blocks home and abroad, related lessons are summarized. At last, detailed principles, strategies and methods are proposed for landscape design and updating to make this paper more reasonable and scientific. Core areas of the five major blocks are exemplified to provide practical proofs for the whole essay. This is also a key and the most profound part of the dissertation.At last, a conclusion is reached that it is necessary to conform to original characteristic landscapes in the process of updating and designing landscapes of five major blocks, learn from present advanced methods and principles for landscape renovation in historical blocks, and develop appropriate principles and methods for designing and updating landscapes of five major blocks according to various charters and regulations of Tianjin about protection and updating of historical blocks, so as to provide references for updating and designing landscapes of other historical blocks.
