North Guangxi area generally refers to Guilin, Liuzhou and the cities around, including Fuchuan, Lingchuan, Yangshuo and Gongcheng, etc. These cities located in the border of Guangxi, Hunan and Guangdong province. Some of them use to be Xiaohe ancient road, which is the earliest region that Han culture has been introduced and prospered. These areas cause a lot of drama performance constructions mainly has two reasons. Firstly, with the development of commerce and population migration, the drama performance architecture regarded as a recreational space and this kind of architectural form has been widely spread. On the other hand, for the influence of the theology and the etiquette culture, many villages start building the drama performance architecture spontaneously. The drama performance architecture of North Guangxi refers to the ancient stages. Most of these ancient stages were built in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Some stages were repaired in recent years. The ancient stages in North Guangxi mostly belong to temples, ancestral temples or the self-built village stage. There were less stages belong to hall affiliated stage. This paper tries to combine the method of modern acoustic design and analysis such as the use of software ODEON and the scene of surveying and mapping to carry out the research of acoustic reduction and quality study of the ancient stages in North Guangxi. This research aims to develop the acoustic quality and characteristics of ancient stages in North Guangxi by comparing the different type, style and age stages. In addition, the conclusion of the paper can provide measures and suggestions for the protection of ancient building in the process of stages repair and restore. This paper mainly includes the following four aspects:Firstly, the reasons for the formation and the difference of ancient stages in North Guangxi will be discussed through the overview of the cultural background of the ancient stage, such as size, type of drama and audience. Combined with the results of field surveying and mapping, acoustic classification will be made for the stages which can provide analogy basis for after researchSecondly, acoustics principle analysis of ancient stages in North Guangxi will be listed, which refer to the method of establishing sound source model and how to use ODEON to complete this study. On the basis of acoustic classification, some representative stages were selected as the research object.Thirdly, this paper discusses the main acoustic index of the representative stages which obtain by the simulation according to the research of surveying and mapping such as the reverberation time, intelligibility and IACC. These indexes are commonly used in the modern theatre acoustic quality design, which can describe the acoustic characteristics of various traditional acoustic classification stages. This research also refers to the main factors the main factors that influence the sound quality characteristics of stages such as audience position, clarity of performance, noise interference and the characteristics of sound environment. Finally, some comparison has been made between Chinese and western ancient drama performance architecture to tell the different acoustic characteristics in different region. Meanwhile, the protection strategies and the measures of acoustic design for stages will be raised. So that when the protection of stages is carrying out, protection of local opera culture is also on the way.
