As the land resources is deficient day after day, more and more attention is paid on the resources that sea contains. As a consequence of this, the demand and usage of giant marine engineering equipment such as offshore platform is increasing. Module carrier, as the name implies, main function is to transport large equipment and module. To satisfy the need by the usage and maintenance of the marine engineering equipment, the module carrier provide necessary guarantee.As the more attention to the polar resources and the increase usage of the northern sea route, the vessels have more chances to navigate in ice zones. Due to the specialty of the ice load, the extra consideration should be to ice navigated vessels. There are some specified rules and regulations to the ice navigated vessels from structure strength aspect which published by some countries and Class societies. This paper is based on the investigation of the module carried market, compares the difference of cargo loading and design features between module carrier and regular vessel from the aspects of performance and structure design.Take one module carrier of 21000DWT fabricated by some shipyard for example, under the LR Ice class 1A requirement, investigate the structure character of ice navigated vessel. And master the calculation method of structure strength in ice zone. And analyze the structure for two different framing system which are longitudinal framing and transverse framing, comparing the each advantage of two framing system and get the corresponding result. Meanwhile by using the Class rule check software to check one frame's structure scantling under the condition of no ice class, ice class 1AS,1A, IB,1C to compare the steel weight influence under different ice class condition.Besides the requirement of structure strength in ice zone, under the relative requirement of the LR Class rule, the finite element model is built by using the software Poseidon. And the strength direct analysis is applied including several different loading conditions. The calculation result is to be analyzed and to conclude the calculation method of module carrier structure strength.
