Research On The Optimization Method For Improving The Service Of The Container Gate Based On The Storage Strategy

With the rapid advance of world economic integration, container transportation has become a mainstream mode of maritime transport and plays an increasingly important role in the international economic trade. With the trend of large fast-growing container throughput and container ship, serious congestion problems begun to appear in part of terminals and severely restrict the efficiency of operations. How to make full use of the existing equipment and resources and set reasonable control to the trucks has become an issue which many terminals improve service to be solved.Sometimes the line of the gate is not caused by the limited of gate for some terminals, but the unbalance arrival of trucks. To alleviate this phenomenon, most of the research focus on the management of time window or the appointment of the trucks. Based on the analysis of the arrival discipline of the vessels and trucks, this paper proposes a method of cutting or extending the storage period of the containers. By balancing the arrival of trucks of one vessel, it can balance the arrival of the trucks in the hole terminal. Therefore, it can reduce the line of gate and enhance the service level of the gate.Based on the unbalance and random arrival of vessels and trucks, this paper construct a model to simulate the collection and distribution system driven by the vessels. After checking the validity of the model by an example of a terminal in north China, this paper simulates the line of the gate applying the storage strategies in the terminal. The results show that the level of the gate service gets higher with the growing of the number of storage period and it’s better to cut the storage period of the Import containers than the export containers. At the same time, the level of the gate service gets higher with the extending of the storage period and it’s better to extend the storage period of the Import containers than the export containers.The proposed method can effectively balance the arrival of trucks, reduce the concentration arrival, and enhance the service level of gate. It means a lot to the operations and management of the terminal and the makers can choose the suitable storage strategies according to the operation states and the available resources.
