A Comparative Study Of The Eastern And Western Monumental Space Based On Archetypal Gestalt

Nowadays modem cities have become high-efficient and complex machines which exist without emotional identifications. The perceptibility of monumental spaces bearing public activities make more sense. In the history of urban construction there are so many same shape memorial spaces, they present a kind of permanence across time and space. As places, they always be easily perceived and identified. The deep reason of the phenomena need for scientific answers strongly.Considering that the present researches are focus on the tendency or techniques of specific cases, this paper try to explain the phenomena from the angle of horizontal contrast and the essence of spaces. Philosophy, psychology, architectural typology and other related social sciences are combined to study the homology and evolution of monumental spaces in different cultural environment, and to discuss the consistent pattern of mental stimulatio.At first, concepts like gestalt schemata, memorial space, typology become clear and definite based on summarizing the points in related literatures. Refers to the philosophical study of transcendental form, the paper classes the form of monumental spaces to Carl Jung's collective unconscious prototypes. Using the geometric motif of mandala, it defines this kind of prototypes as archetypal gestalts. It discusses and summarizes the contents of its geometric structure, a geometric order conversion, additions and deletions decay. On the basis of archetypal gestalts, the specific cases of monumental spaces are selected an examples for analysis and illustration.Secondly, the regression and evolution rules of monumental spaces are analyzed by discussing the construction of archetypal gestalts.
