The increasing economic development has close connected with railway transportation in China, and the marshalling yard is regarded as the soring hinge for freight trains, which gets more and more attention; the hump yard is a key component in the marshalling yard, which can make use of its own slope to let the trains at the same track hump free by gravity, and then these trains enter into the target area and link together. But the trains' speed should be strictly controlled in the whole process, otherwise the serious consequences would be unimaginable. At present, most marshalling yards have carried out automated humping in China, and speed controllers that they use are almost clamshell brakes and controlled retarders.By the exploration on the spot, however, clamshell brakes that speed-interval controllers use have huge potential security problem. The principle of clamshell brakes is to make use of clamps to squeeze the wheels and to produce the friction, and that friction reduce rotating speed of the wheels, and finally completed the deceleration. The wheels are easy to deform after being squeezed for a long time, especially for the back wheels. Additionally, clamshell brakes need to take long time to warm up when they set off, which weaken the hump's ability to split up trains, so they extremely limit railway transportation.Eddy current brake is a high security, non-wear, good controllability device, which will become a new alternative in the field of humping speed. The countries initially developing Eddy current brake are Germany, Japan and France, but domestic study of Eddy current brake is still at the beginning stage, or only focus on Hybrid Electric Vehicle and the auxiliary controller of maglev trains. In fact, the recent domestic study is not familiar with Eddy current brake, so Eddy current brake technology is not widely applied in China yet. Therefore, the study has not only the value of academics but also profound realistic significance.By analyzing the Eddy current brake at home and abroad, and by depending on the data that the system of humping speed produces to set up a mathematical model. The mathematical model will be used to analyze the braking torque of eddy current brake, and the research will complete the design plan of reduction gear after examine on the spot, and thus the research will use CAD software to make the installation diagram. Finally, the research will make use of Ansoft Maxwell 3D software to analyze the reduction gear and to build a simulation model.
