Marshalling station is one of most critical operation units in railway system. The responsibility of it is breaking up and making up the freight cars, so it is called “Train Factory”. And the most useful operation equipment in the marshalling yard is hump. The radio communication system is a very important part in the hump operation. The wireless communication is known as forming each department in the railway field, especially transmission of wireless data between vehicles and tower or between driver and dispatcher, who is named “Nerve center”. However, with the development of railway freight and increasing requirement of multi-function, it is very difficult for the old and adopted Type-JWT Type-TY5 loco-control radio to adapt the demand a large amount of freight, high safety and efficiency, because they are so weak that couldn't transmit large data or files. And also because the old radio systems still exist, so there has been the shortage of the next generation basic theory of digital wireless communication. Especially there is no simulation platform of train-ground wireless communication existing based on the railway station.According to the above real situation, this thesis combined the requirement of locomotive radio-control with Global System for Mobile Communication-railway(GSM-R) or Wireless Local Area Network(WLAN). The first target is that designing communication system of locomotive tele-control. And then the characteristics of the radio communication system has to be analyzed with OPNET Modeler. Through analyzed the data of wireless channel and interference carefully, the existing system could be found many malfunction problems, such as low speed and weak anti-interference ability. These measures are helpful to develop the speed accuracy of locomotive in hump. And this design has a far-reaching significance to decrease casualty of yardman and improve the operation efficiency.Actually, the survey parameters of engineer acquired are always original physical signal, such as level, signal power and gain. But these data or signal can't match with the Quality of Service(Qo S) of network channel, such as end-to-end delay, bit error rate and throughput. As these problems, the project process of wireless communication construction would be delay. Because of those reasons, firstly this thesis contains the wireless OPNET Modeler based on the railway system. Secondly import the GSM-R and WLAN, the two kinds of mobile communication systems, to the established originated-railway wireless communication simulator. Finally the conclusion about both radio systems could be reached. This result could display distinction between two kinds of radio systems easily. So it would be helpful to design decision and construction scheme.
