Crack is the most common type of pavement disease. The performance of sealants and fillers for asphalt pavement is poor in Gansu Province because of bad material quality, lacking of standard construction techniques and typical climate including big difference of temperature, strong ultraviolet and rain of Gansu Province. Which lead to a huge consumption of highway maintenance fund. It makes an extensive investigation of the application of sealants and fillers of Gansu Province in this paper. A climate division was made based on climate date and math methods. Three kinds of sealants include normal type, low temperature type and cold type was researched and developed using orthogonal test. The aging performance and practical application effect of the sealants was studied. The major contents and results are as follows.The sealants and fillers used in Gansu Province have a poor performance and can't satisify the practical demand in engineering. Principal component analysis method and grey relational method can make comprehensive evaluation of sealants either. The results of the two methods can meet the demand though there is a slight difference between them.The climate division was made using cluster analysis and principal component analysis based on climate date of Gansu Province. The 1st district includes: Jiuquan, Jiayuguan, Jinchang, Wuwei, Zhangye. The 2nd district includes: Linxia, Dingxi, Pingliang, Baiying, Lanzhou, Tianshui and Qingyang. Gannan and Longnan belong to the 3rd and 4th district respectively.The optimum formulation of three kinds of sealants was determined by analysis comprehensive score calculated by principal component analysis method with orthogonal test. Three kinds of aging research includes UV aging, PAV and water aging were conducted on the designed sealants. The cone penetration decreased and the softing point increased after aging. Infrared spectrum analysis results show that the index of S=O and C=O increased between aging process.A testing road was built to examine the practical performance of designed sealants. Compared with sealants produced by other manufacturers, the designed sealants has a better performance after three months. The construction parameters include heating temperature, continued heating time, thickness of sealant, speed of construction should obye the standard specification to guarantee the construction quality.
