The Urban Outdoor Public Leisure Space Form Study In Northern China

Many entertainment activities are naturally originated after people finish a day's labor work,among which, spontaneous outdoor recreation is becoming one of the main-stream leisure activities. With China's economic development, people's living standard is improving. Many people spontaneously break away dull indoor daily routines and seek for outdoor activities in groups. During the process of urban construction, the government and investors are paying great attention to the construction of outdoor leisure squares, such as supporting facilities of urban parks and public leisure space including citizen square. This measure greatly improve people's communication and leisure space beside their work. Currently, tall buildings is not the only indicator to examine a city's civilization. The supportive construction of public leisure space can also be categorized as important infrastructure in urban construction. The construction of outdoor public leisure space, like landscape facility which represents regional culture, is a symbol of a city's folk culture. The outdoor public leisure space not only serves as a functional space, but also can improve the whole city's image.China is a vast country with wide latitudes. A large part of China are in the north temperate zone. Influenced by winter monsoon, most northern cities have low temperatures. For example,cities in China's northeastern areas are often hit by the Siberian cold current of the northern hemisphere, so that China's northern area is featured with severe cold. China's northern cities have four distinctive seasons. In terms of its structure and construction, northern cities' outdoor public leisure space are greatly influenced by cold current.With the improvement of the social productivity and the implement of two-day weekend,people have more leisure time, and more need of public leisure space accordingly. In terms of the quality and the phenomenon of outdoor public leisure space, as well as the cultural connotation it carried, citizen have higher demands. The research of cities in severe-cold area in their planning of the construction of public outdoor leisure space contributes to solving the problem of urban layout and construction of cities in severe-cold area. This paper focuses on public leisure space of the cities in cold area- China's northern cities and provides suggestions on the form and function design of infrastructure of outdoor public leisure space by experiencing cold area cities' public leisure space in China and western countries.This paper analyzes and concludes the morphological constructing of outdoor public leisure space by analyzing the behavior of citizens in cold area cities. Based on the surrounding components and the form of limited space, the paper researched on condition aspect, formataspect and typical public activity space and concludes the design principles on cold-area cities' outdoor leisure space. The paper provides the design guidance from the aspects of human-oriented, space and function and formal beauty. As urban public leisure, the research on city public leisure space form is to analyze the form of public outdoor area. Space form is to research the relationship of public outdoor area and the surrounding architecture and space. The format of city public outdoor leisure space is influenced by surrounding construction,organization structure and the function of surrounding construction. The research foundation is based on the city public leisure space format and surrounding morphology organization.The paper concludes space format modals into “point format”space, “surface format”space and “line format”space. The paper provides guiding suggestions on outdoor leisure space design by researching the applicable targets of the the three modals, format influential target, typical modal considering suitable space color and wind-proof maintenance treatment.
