China is located in the Eurasian plate,and frequent earthquake threat to human life and property,however,the collapse of structures or damage is an important cause of these losses.Since masonry structure has lots of advantages of low-cost,readyavailability,construction efficiency and so on,it has a extensive application and enormous holdings in small towns in our country.Therefore,it is of great theoretical value and practical significance to accurately assess the seismic performance of masonry structures.However,detailed structural analysis and investigation of a large number of buildings needs a lot of professionals,and it can not be completed in a short time.Especially for the evaluation of masonry structure after the earthquake,it is urgent to judge the damage degree of buildings in a short time and restore the function of the building as soon as possible,to complete the reconstruction work after the disaster.So,for better and faster to solve such problem,we need a relatively rapid,simple and reliable assessment methodology that is suitable for a large area buildings.Therefore,in order to rapid assessment of the seismic performance of masonry structures,especially after the disaster,the paper carried out the following :1.A summary of the present evaluation method of the seismic performance of the building structure,an outline of the domestic and foreign research on seismic performance evaluation of masonry structure,and an overview of the research status about seismic evaluation index of masonry structures.2.Based on a lot of damage data of masonry buildings collected from earthquake,the seismic damage data are analyzed and masonry structure damage and failure characteristics of law are summarized,and the main factors affecting the seismic capacity of masonry structures are discussed.3.A relatively reliable and convenient method for seismic performance evaluation of masonry structures is discussed.With research about relationship of wall area and the seismic capacity of masonry structure based on seismic data,a criterion for judging the damage grade of the structure based on the wall area ratio is put forward,at well as the quantitative relationship between the proposed index and the damage grade.4.Selecting four examples suffered ?,?,?,? degree of intensity respectively,and the proposed evaluation method and the existing seismic qualification standard evaluation methods are both put forward in each example,seismic capacity assessment results are compared with the actual damage,to verify the rationality and simplicity of the assessment method proposed in this paper.
