Bus stop, which has a close relationship with the service quality of public transport, is an important part of public transport system. Optimal design of bus stops is not only related to the service quality and operational efficiency of public transport system, but also has an impact on the operation of the whole road. However, researches on the optimization of bus stop are more concentrated on transportation planning level and less more concentrated on transportation control level. The design of bus stop are mostly analyzed without considering the impact on bus operating efficiency, especially in the cases with bus signal priority. Therefore, this paper takes bus priority as the objective, explores the relationship between bus stop locations and bus priority efficiency under segmented signal progression control and finally makes recommendations to optimize the locations of bus stops under different road conditions.Firstly, the basic characteristics of the bus stops are discussed, and the classification and applicability of bus stop are summarized. The study shows that far-side bus stop is a better choice in most situations. Then, the active and positive bus segmented signal progression are proposed. In addition, the multiple simulation scenarios are created by varying the basic parameters of signal control strategies and simulation variables (traffic volume, intersection spacing) in VISSIM. Analysis of vehicle delay and average speed under different road conditions indicates that far-side bus stop is more conducive to the implementation of bus segmented signal progression control strategy.
