| Streets was once an important place for residents’ daily life interactions in traditional China cities. However, with the development of modern city and modern transportation which is dominated by vehicles, the traditional street system has suffered tremendous destruction by the process of widely spreading of modern network.At present, criticism about the drawbacks of modern transportation network, such as inefficiency, pollution and social segregation, has increased by day. Based on the previous studies on grid patterns and urban place theories, the article claimed that streets is irreplaceable of China’s urban public space. New street system should be constructed in order to revive the everyday life place of the contemporary Chinese society.The article has then introduced a possible pattern of reconstruction of living streets from unit to network. Besides, applicable direction of different locations and timing control has been discussed. In order to achieve the operability and public acceptance, several design principals and public anticipation method have been put forward.Finally, the article introduced Nanjing Colonel Field planning as example to show how the new mode could be applied. By this case, practical operation method is explored, which may be a reference for the relative planning in the future. |
