The Conflict Resolution Strategies Of Sino-foreign Consortium In EPC Engineering Project

At present, with the process of modern huge engineering project becomes more and more complicated, the difficult of the project-execution phase is also increased. Base on the economy of project investment, the project manager will more stringent control on construction process and building cost. The traditional multi stage management method (design-bidding-construction) can not meet the requirement of project control. In the late 1960s, EPC general contract mode first appeared in the United States, this method make all of work (include design, procurement and construction) executed by one contractor, this contractor will be fully in charge of the whole project to reduce the project cost and compression period, streamline project the management.T hen the mode quickly expanded to the whole world, and introduced into China in the 1990s.In China, EPC model widely used in huge energy projects. Because of the lack of energy engineering technology, domestic engineering companies always combined with foreign engineering companies to contract EPC project. This kind of combination has become a special contract organization in the project. Despite this new organization has many advantages, there will be a lot of internal conflicts in the cooperation between Chinese and foreign companies, these conflicts may be caused by culture, interests, management, strategies, etc. This thesis will analyze and try to solve these conflicts.First of all, this thesis will study the characteristics and structure of EPC model. Research past literature by related theories and classify the Sino-foreign Consortium conflicts to different time periods depending on the project cycle theory and analysis conflict Intensity of each phase, explain the causes of Sino-foreign Consortium conflict according to the situation of each period of EPC project. Second, according this cause to design new project organization, provide conflict prevention strategy, and then explore the method of conflict resolution and management. At last, compare the case with the previous conflict management method; explain the application of conflict resolution and management from the practical view.
