Floral-pendant Gate Decoration Art Research In Chinese Traditional Architecture

Floral pendant gate in Chinese traditional buildings is like a star among the vast starry sky, small but bright. It integrates multiple classic decorative elements of the traditional buildings, and exudes an irreplaceable artistic charming. As a small part of the traditional buildings, it has not been given enough attention, since in the field of traditional building decoration, few scholars have ever made detailed and thorough research on it. In 1920 s, the Chinese people began to research traditional buildings, and by 1960 s, substantial research results had been achieved in this field and also appeared a large amount of literature; however, few of those were related to floral pendant gate. Although it looks just like a common door, it combines all the decorative languages in Chinese traditional buildings. Therefore, it has a high research value not only for traditional building decoration art research and the repair of the traditional buildings, but also for modern Chinese type building creation.The thesis, with floral pendant gate decoration art in traditional buildings as the research object, first makes a thorough discussion about the current condition and development status of the traditional buildings and floral pendant gate decoration art in China and other Asian areas. Then it comes to explain the significance and objective of the research. On such basis, it introduces the origin and the basic function of floral pendant gate. After that, a detailed description is made about the characteristics of floral pendant gate decoration art. On the basis of the links between its apparent decoration art characteristics and the inherent culture, its design principle is analyzed next, so as to get traditional design principle well combined with modern buildings. In the end, the feasibility of the decoration design is talked about in the approach of case study, in hope to provide a reference value and significance for future research.
