With the development of aviation technology, the avionics has greatly increased, traditional distribution system can’t meet the needs of the development of the aircraft, because the solid state power distribution system has the advantages of small weight and high degree of automation, the pilot’s workload has been reduced and the deficiency of the traditional distribution system has been made up. In solid state power distribution system, solid state power controller(SSPC) is the key component for the protection of electrical equipment. SSPC is a solid state device which uses the MOSFET to replace the circuit breaker and relay, SSPC has the characteristics of no arc, no contact, no noise, low EMI, fast response, high reliability, long service life, easy to be controlled by remote and can provide real-time status monitoring. The study takes the request of the modern aircraft as the premise, principle of SSPC and the application of the key technology of the inverse time over-current protection algorithm etc as the foundation, a SSPC based on FPGA had been designed.Firstly, the solid state power distribution mode and the structure of the SSPC had been studied. The general structure block diagram of SSPC had been given. According to its general structure, the software and hardware modules were designed respectively, FPGA’s abundant internal resources were fully utilized to achieve the core logic of the system’s processing, the use of peripheral hardware had been greatly reduced, the volume of the SSPC had been reduced. Secondly, in order to protect the load reliably and improve the efficiency of maintenance, the three stage drop gate voltage technology, the load on line detection technology and the inverse time protection algorithm had been studied. These three techniques all had been applied in SSPC. The communication between the host computer and the SSPC had been studied in detail. Finally, the on-off of the MOSFET, communication of the system and inverse time had been tested on the SSPC, the results show that the SSPC can complete all the requirements.
