Cognitive radio technology is applied for tactical wireless communication to serve for the modern military opperations with higher communication performance. Based on the evaluation of current works on CSMA/CA MAC protocols in cognitive wireless networks, channel access coordination was studied in details but channel collision problem remained unsolved yet, which brought forth the channel mis-match problem in multi-channel cognitive wireless communication.A new CHS-based distributed CSMA/CA MAC protocol is proposed for the channel mis-match problem in this thesis. A probatilistic window adjustment scheme, p-DOUBLE, was proposed to reduce the performance loss of channel mis-match problem within the 802.11 DCF scheme. Evaluation results showed that message delivery delay could be shorten and throughput of wireless network could be improved effectively also.Furthermore, Dual-Radio based cognitive wireless network architecture was proposed for the mis-synchron problem in the multichannel rendezvous. To overcome the strong interference from the dual radio devices on the same wireless terminal, orthotropic channel hopping sequence was proposed to make these two radio working on different channels. The design of channel assignment scheme for the orthotropic channel hopping sequence was also discussed in details. Evaluation results showed that the performance of dual-radio based cognitive wireless network, including message delivery delays and network throughput, could be improved based on the multichannel rendezvous MAC protocol.
