With the rapid development of national economy, our country has already entered the era of electrification, Toward the information age, then the transmission of information security in the process of entering the information which becomes very important. In the process of signal transmission, the main transmission medium is cable. How to meet the test requirements of the cable is a very important thing.The cable test equipment in China has a single function,few test points, low price, low efficiency, lack of expansion ability, and can not adapt to the changes of the cable length and the number of cores. In the most commonly used test methods for cables is still artificial detection method. In the process of testing will be testing labor intensity is relatively large, relatively slow speed of the test, interference of artificial factors, many disadvantage of low precision. Therefore, we urgently need to to solve the problem with high detection ability of the cable tester.In this paper, the source of the design is a equipment research institute in air defense, through analysis and Research on the mandate of the obtained in this paper, the design of cable testing need to include setting turn-on resistance test, insulation test, electrical resistance test, capacitance test, inductance test,fault location testing. In the aspect of hardware design, selection of design software is Protel99 SE, selection of the core chip for conduction resistance test circuit is designed based on ARM micro controller LPC2378, with the smallest LPC2378 system as the basis of peripheral circuit design, using voltage comparison method, design a bridge resistor network to the insulation test circuit design, size by LC oscillating circuit is designed to measure the cable capacitance and inductance, used in electrical resistance test method for pressurized leakage current, used to locate the fault point test is low pressure pulse test method.In this paper, the design of the cable tester using the two CAN communication mode, so that it can be a good communication function. In order to improve the test capacity and reduce the time required for the equipment tocontinue to work, the design of the cable tester is designed in this paper. The software is keil4,we can program for LPC2378 from it. In the full using of the LPC2378 is based on the using of modular design principles. Using LabWindows / CVI software for the preparation of the PC program, through the experimental data collection and verification that the design method can meet the test requirements. In this paper, the design of cable testing instrument can make correct test the performance of cable.
