The thesis studies on the questions of form of blocks and plots in former Japanese,French and British concessions area in Tianjin from the perspective of morphology.Though quantitative researches on concession's history and urban form in macroscopic view, the thesis tries to reveal the characteristics of urban form and subdivision principles of blocks and plots in former Japanese,French and British concession in Tianjin,so that it can provide new perspective for recognizing the value of the urban historical heritage. The thesis is composed of two parts: the form of blocks and the subdivision principles of plots.Firstly,by clarifying the history and planning stages of former Japanese,French and British concessions,it points out that the complicated urban form in Tianjin concessions is influenced by their boundaries and construction stages.Secondly, the study transformed the information of blocks and plots into vector maps as the basis for analysis. In the research of blocks,by analyzing the distribution of length and width of blocks, the study finds out the interrelationship between the length-width ratio of blocks and the construction process with a chart of block characteristics. In the research of plots, from the start of analyzing plots' first subdivisions,it discusses the interrelationship between block forms and plot subdivision principles. Finally, through comparative study of the blocks and plots in former Japanese,French and British concessions, the thesis demonstrates the interaction between blocks, plots and streets.By means of studying the blocks and plots,it interprets the mechanism of urban planning in modern Tianjin.Nowadays,a large number of historical blocks which are not included in the scope of protection have been demolition in the large scale of city development.I hope the result of the thesis can provide a new perspective to cognition,in order to make the protection and development of historical blocks end into the framework of urban planning.
