The Evolution Of Urban Fabric In Modern Historical Blocks In Tianjin

Modern Tianjin was established in 1860 s,lasting 80 years and ended in 1940 s.The urban area constructed by other countries constituted the city center of contemporary Tianjin,which influenced subsequent urban development.In the view of researches more on the history and development of modern Tianjin but less on micro morphology,more qualitative but less analysis,and more concentrated before 1940 s but less after 1940 s.The purpose of this study is to analyse the evolution of historical blocks from 1940 s to 2015 by qualitatively analyzing street,block,alley,plot and building,to sum up its evolution law and influencing factorsThis paper mainly studies the evolution of street fabric and block fabric.In the 2th chapter,the study of evolution of street fabric,through the evolution of the quantity,length,width and arrangement of streets,and the size and form of blocks,it discovers:(1)The overall street fabric is relatively stable.(2)The relationship between the relative stability and the form of block is not obvious;the evolution of the block does not show a transition to a suitable size.(3)the suitable size makes most block keep the original form,however,the land system of socialist market economy promots the integration and concentrated development of the large blocks while causes hard development and invariable form of the small blocks.In the study of block fabric evolution,the preserving of historical buildings are discussed in chapter three by studying the influence of number and location of street and evolution of circulation on street form and the influence of number,location,area,frontages and lengths of plots and the evolution of arrangement on plot form.It concludes that:(1)Comparing with the street fabric,the block fabric shows more instability,changes acuter and more complicated.(2)Because of the large-scale urban construction regarding block as a unit,the streets disappear with the buildings,the other part of streets came into being.The whole space structure has changed significantly.(3)The blocks tend to merge obviously.The size of block doubles.Meanwhile,the mergence brings more frontage and length to blocks.The style of arrangement of blocks are simpler than before,but the relationship between block and urban streets becomes closer.In chapter four,in-depth case study is carried out based the instances of two historical culture district in North Jiefang Road and Anshan Street.On account of the differences of urban fabric,the areas that had similar street space and historical value show variant evolution.This paper demonstrates the influence of morphology elements and society elements on the evolution of urban form by quantitative analysis of the evolution and its rule of Tianjin modern urban form in contemporary construction.Besides,the study reveals the complexity of Tianjin modern urban form,which can also provide the basis and supplement for global urban protection.
