As an important part of urban traffic, signalized intersection has complex traffic flow and frequent accidents. And as a vulnerable group in traffic participants, pedestrian involving traffic accidents have been high proportion. However, unsafe crossing behavior of pedestrian at signalized intersections can be seen everywhere, which leads to many hidden dangers for traffic safety environment. Therefore,it is urgent to carry out depth study on pedestrian crossing characteristics to reveal the inherent law of pedestrian crossing. And then put forward control measures to protect pedestrian safety and improve the through efficiency of intersection. To achieve the above objectives,4 typical signalized intersections in Beijing were selected for the study on the basis of field investigation.Finally,2165 valid samples were extracted from the video for our research. The main work and achievements are as follows:(1)Pedestrians' micro crossing behavior at signalized intersections was analyzed by the empirical research. This paper analyzes the differences of waiting position, waiting time, crossing speed, crossing gap selection and observing behavior in the signalized intersection, reveals the behavior rules of different types of pedestrians. The results show that pedestrian time violation rate was significantly higher than the space violation rate.Gender has no significant effect on illegal crossing and the rate of elderly pedestrian violation is higher than that of middle-aged and young people. The crossing speed of the pedestrian arrived in the front and the last period of the red light is significantly higher than the pedestrian arrived in the middle period of the red light. The acceptable gap of the illegal pedestrian is longer than the second half of the intersection. The observing behavior of illegal crossing pedestrian is most obvious before crossing and more than half of the pedestrians in the second half of the crossing process did not observe at all.(2)Factors affecting the crossing behavior were analyzed by factor analysis. The principal component analysis is used to reduce the dimension of the factors related to pedestrian crossing behavior.Finally,6 factors were extracted from the 11 variables and they are signal facility factor, road environment factor, waiting behavior factor, herd behavior factor, arrival environmental factor and pedestrian characteristic factor.(3)Pedestrian crossing behavior model and related factors were investigated.Based on the results of factor analysis, firstly, the pedestrian crossing multiple Logistic regression model is established.Secondly, based on two Logistic regression analysis, the pedestrian risk preferences are modeled and analyzed.Based on model results, the impact of factors on pedestrian crossing decision was analyzed and evaluated. And suggestions for improving pedestrian traffic environment are put forward. The results show that the influence factors of the signal lamp facilities factor, the road environment factor and the arrival environmental factor on the time violation and the space violation behavior are obvious. And the influence of herd behavior factor and waiting behavior factor on pedestrian violation is mainly concentrated on the time violation.Road environmental factors, environmental factors and signal facilities factors significantly affect the waiting decision making behavior of pedestrians.(4)Influence of signal type on pedestrian crossing behavior was researched. The violation rate, waiting position and waiting time difference were analyzed by variance analysis, covariance analysis and survival analysis. The influence of signal type on pedestrian crossing behavior is evaluated by the results of the analysis. The results show that the violation rate of static pedestrian signal lights is significantly higher than that of the countdown signal lights. There are significant differences in the waiting position of different signal intersection samples. The type of signal lamp has a significant effect on young and middle-aged pedestrians, and the influence of the signal type on the behavior decision of the pedestrian arrived in the front and last period of the red light is more obvious.Compared to the countdown signal intersection, pedestrians at the intersection with static pedestrian signal light tend to wait for a short period of time before the violation through.
