On the background of the integration of world economy,the volume of international trade rises up with the continuous development of ports.The yard,which is the place to store,load and unload containers,plays a significant role in the operation of ports,whose productivity and benefits are influenced directly by the capacity and layout of yards.Therefore,sufficient area and reasonable layout can enhance the throughput capacity effectively,furthermore,increase the revenue of ports.However,the investment and the area of ports are limited in the reality.The only feasible way to maximise the utilisation of yard is the rational area planning and the optimised layout of ports.By analysing and summarising the previous researches related to the optimisation of port area,it can be found that empirical formula and look-up table method are usually utilised to calculate the optimised results of port area under some certain conditions.However,these methods cannot match with various factors in the reality and the calculated results usually have relatively large errors.In order to obtain more optimised results of port area,this paper considers different uncertain factors and analyses different flow paths in the operation of ports.And then,a mathematical model,which set the daily net income in the port yard as the optimisation target,is constructed to calculate the optimised port area.Finally,the real data of D port are used to demonstrate the feasibility of this model.The research result proves that this mathematical model can calculate the optimised port area accurately under the condition of maximum daily net income.By conducting researches of D port,it can be found that some solutions need to be conduct to optimise the yard area of D port.Based on the calculation results,this paper provides some advice to Y port to enhance its yard utilisation.
