With the rapid development of global trade, the volume of container transportation has grown rapidly.Since 21st century, due to the development of offshore outsourcing in the manufacturing industry, global container traffic has grown rapidly at a rate of at least four times the global GDP.Container terminals are playing an increasingly important role in international trade, but currently terminals are also facing development bottlenecks such as area constraints, lack of adequate decision-making tools, yard traffic congestion and environmental issues. The core resources of container terminal yard operation port, reasonable yard space allocation and management can improve the efficiency of yard. This paper studies the allocation problem of the dedicated container yard, that is,the dedicated yard is only used by the allocated liner companies. In the past, the research on the issues related to the storage space allocation of the yard was basically to establish a mixed integer programming model for research and analysis.Due to the high complexity of the mixed integer programming model,it is difficult to guarantee whether the optimal solution can be obtained.Different from the mixed integer programming model, this paper proposes a queuing theory model to study the dedicated yard space allocation problem to assist port authorities and terminal operators to solve the storage space allocation problem(SSAP),it will be more meaningful for port planning practice. In the queuing theory model, the conditions that satisfy the optimal solution can be derived, however, the queuing theory model has stricter requirements and restrictions on the queuing system. In order to check the feasibility and applicability of the queuing theory model proposed in this paper, this article selects the top three liner companies in container capacity, and empirically studies the distribution rules of vessel inter-arrival time and container dwell time in port. After the model, the case study of YICT is carried out with the queuing theory model. In order to further verify the rationality and effectiveness of the queuing theory model in this paper, two discrete event system simulation models are proposed in this paper, and the simulation results are compared with those based on queuing theory.
