Articulated wagon is a new railway vehicle jointing by articulated coupling, sharing bogie under the coupling. So that wagons can take full advantage of the axis's capability, economize bogie's amount, shorten the fleet's length. These wagons gain great attention and favor from many countries railway. Since 1980's, the advantage of articulated wagon is approved in US. Australia and Europe followed the model, and obtained better economy benefit. Research on the advanced technology concept of articulated vehicle, the development and application of articulated container transport equipment, can enhance the technical level of the vehicle manufacturing industry, and promote the further development of the railway equipment industry.This article's research object is the 5-pack articulated container flat wagon exported to Australia. On the basis of the analysis of articulated vehicles, the priority is analizing the status of australian railway and existing wagon, in order to satisfying consumer's require, aiming at developing economical railway vehicle which is advanced in technique and safety in use.The best structure and reliable fittings of the wagon are sifted out by contrasting the function and specialty.Finally, the general scheme is proposed. The main dimensions and performance parameters of the vehicle are analyzed and calculated, and the model is created to check all kinds of conditions, so that the vehicle to obtain advanced, reasonable, economic and technical indicators. The steel structure of the car body static and fatigue strength are calculated using finite element method, verificating technology scheme is feasible and can be implemented.The prototype were tested. The results show that the vehicle scheme is reasonable, the actual performance of the product conforms to standards and customer requirements.By quantitative analysis, the article accounted for economical value on benefit, cost including manufacturing and maintainance during the wagon's whole life, in contrast with the similar flat wagon. Finally the research is completed.The research object of this paper is a systematic knowledge summary of articulated vehicle development process. It woulld provide some theoretical basis and technical reference for the research and development of articulated vehicles, promote the technology development of railway vehicles with higher practical value, and has a good reference value for enhancing the specialized level of railway freight cars.
