From the end of the 1990 s,under the guidance of the strategy of "rejuvenating the country through science and education",in order to meet the needs of large-scale enrollment expansion in colleges and promote the sharing of educational resources, more than 50 university cities across the country are planning and building, which is representative of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. As the university cities have been building, the number of university libraries are also increasing year by year.At the same time, under the influence of the rapid development of information technology,reader-oriented management services and other factors, the university library's reader space has changed greatly compared with the past.A library,as the heart of college, the requirements of new era which is no longer a simple collection or reading places, but also need to have the functions including "information center","social center" and "service center".Teachers and students as the main users of university libraries, whose behavioral tendencies and physiological needs are important issues that architects cannot ignore when designing a library. In the construction of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, the design and construction period of the educational buildings are relatively short. And the library as the tendency of campus image makes the architects pay more attention to the appearance of the library building.Meanwhile they ignore the real users, resulting that the library cannot be well adapted to the needs of the use.In the operation phase, the university library has found some problems in the reader space. For example, the spatial layout is single, the space utilization is not high, and the service facilities are not perfect, and so on.As a scientific evaluation method, the post occupancy evaluation starting from the users' firsthand experience and actual feeling on the built environment, will be obtained on the university library subjective evaluation information into a rational analysis,to explore the state of construction in the actual use,so as to get the architectural design strategy in accordance with realistic demand. This paper takes the university library reader space in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center as the research object, and uses the post occupancy evaluation as the main research method. On the basis of the literature and related theories, this paper makes a field research on ten university libraries in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. It summarizes the explicit and stealth needs of the reader's use behavior by using the methods including questionnaire survey and free interview, which draws the evaluation factor set and determines the evaluation factor to construct the scientific evaluation logic. This paper chooses the Sun Yat-sen University Library, the South China Normal University Library and the Guangzhou University Library as the research cases, and divides the reader's space into three parts: "retrieval cashier space","reading space" and "public activity space" to do the research. On the basis of architecture, this paper combines environmental psychology, statistics, sociology and other disciplines. From the reader's behavior characteristics and psychological needs, this paper conduct a systematic and scientific evaluation study in the functional performance, physical environment and environmental psychology of these three aspects.Statistical analysis of evaluation results summed up the successful revelation and the common problems in the readers space design of university library, found its causes and explored the corresponding solutions. So that it can provide some valuable reference for the architects while designing the university library building more efficiently and reasonably in the future.
