Since the 1990 s,China has gradually entered the aging society,the elderly living environment improvement is one of the core issues of aging.In the context of open residential areas,it becoming the main form of future settlements,the opening of residential areas has brought about changes in its external space environment,which has had a certain impact on the development of physical and mental activities of the elderly.How to deal with this design for the elder is the main goal of this paper.In this paper,the external space environment of open residential area is taken as the object of study.Through the study of relevant cases at home and abroad,this paper summarizes the spatial characteristics,spatial elements and spatial structure patterns of the external space of open residential area,Psychological and behavioral activities,and so on,and then through field investigation to analyze and summarize the problems of the external space of the open residential area,according to the scale of the residential scale,Spatial structure model,road traffic organization,public activity space,service facilities and physical environment elements,which provide theoretical basis for the design of outdoor space environment suitable for the elderly in open residential area.The innovation of this paper is mainly based on the open residential area as the research object,through the comparison with the closed residential area,to explore its special external space environment factors suitable for the design strategy.From the behavior and needs of the elderly,"bottom-up" on the open residential space environment for empirical research.And provide some basis for the further study on the problem of housing right in the future.
