Reconstruction And Reuse Of Old Industrial Building Interior Space

Old industrial buildings are those which will be eliminated with the development of the human society.Those buildings to be eliminated have always been regarded as urban “rubbish” while most of them are still in the service period.If they are demolished to make room for new buildings,it will be a huge waste of resources.In most cases,they still possess the value of being developed and used,which,however,is often ignored by people.In order to study the ignored values and explore how to reutilize these old industrial heritages,the internal space of the buildings need to be rearranged so as to endow the old building space with new functions and thus inject vitality into the space of the old buildings.Approaching from the background of reforming the internal space of the old industrial buildings together with illustration of its significance,this paper gave a brief introduction to the basic concept of reforming the internal space of the old industrial buildings,and proposed an outline of research through analysis of the link between reforming the internal space and reusing it.The internal space types of the old industrial buildings for reform and reuse were compared and analyzed through case studies.The properties for reform and the requirement for reuse that are required of the various space types are also compared and analyzed..The paper pointed out that only when an clear understanding of the type and purpose for space reform is obtained and the required basic principles and reform methods are followed in reforming the internal space of the old industrial buildings,can the specific design procedures such as space reconstruction,light layout,and function division be implemented.Through participation in the early-stage design of the internal space reform project of Zhengzhou “Er Sha” old industrial buildings,I gained a lot and began to understand my own deficiency.Looking ahead,the author considered that the development trend of internal space reform of old industrial buildings is generally characterized as follows: the reform tends to be more diversified in the types,more practical in the purposes,more fashionable in the styles and featured with the local elements.
