Analysis Of The Modernity In Chinese Traditional Garden Based On The Six Designing Principles Of Modern Garden

Whether the Chinese traditional garden has the modernity is the key to decide whether it can be inherited.The western modern landscape architecture started with the modern movement with the development history of nearly a century which is popular all over the world for its designing form that is different from the western modern garden.Modern landscape was introduced into China Under the influence of globalization in the world.Then the Chinese designers depend on the western modern landscape architecture as a synonym of the "new" even think of it as norm so that break off even abandon Chinese traditional garden to develop so-called “Chinese modern landscape “.The modern development of Chinese traditional garden presents confusion and struggle in the cultural wave and the modern works on are in doubt “modernity “ and “originality”.China is rich and profound in culture and Chinese traditional garden as a part of the Chinese nation excellent traditional culture shows the wisdom of the Chinese nation,reflects the Chinese people’s cognition and expression of nature and has established a set of complete system of landscape and the way of building,which still has the very high artistic value for today’s landscape design.Therefore,this paper re-examines the Chinese traditional garden with an open,fresh perspective and puts Chinese traditional garden in the theoretical framework of western landscape architecture,trying to compare the six designing principles of modern landscape architecture from the culture and the internal logic of Chinese traditional garden itself.Then discuss the modernity of Chinese traditional garden from the essence of garden so as to provide theoretical basis for the modernization of traditional garden,and make comparison with the cases of western modern garden and Chinese traditional garden,and Chinese traditional garden with Chinese modern garden for instance validation which can be used to guide practice.Through the analysis it can be concluded that Chinese traditional garden almost embodies all the six principles of western modern garden,as to say the traditional garden has the traits of modernity.Chinese traditional garden space and the western modern landscape space all roads lead to Rome once abandoning those superficial symbols such as its concrete materials,color,form and so on.Chinese contemporary designers such as Wang Xiangrong,Zhu Yufan,Dong Yugan and so on whose designing works are based on the essence of traditional garden space for modern translation that provide the operability of the practice exploration for the development of modern landscape.So traditional garden is worth to be inherited in modern landscape design and we need to combine the modern technology and local characteristics with Chinese traditional garden so that to realize the combination and symbiosis of traditional garden and modern landscape.
