With the continuous expansion of city and the rapid increase of motorization,as well as the limited urban construction land, road resources become increasingly scarce.More and more cities began the construction of bus rapid transit systems,to relieve urban congestion and reduce transport carbon emissions. In order to reduce the interference of other vehicles for bus rapid system, bus lanes and stations are set up at middle of roads, which consumes large amounts of road resources and interfere current traffic flow. The purpose of this research is to improve the efficiency of bus rapid transit infrastructure and the economy of the construction of bus rapid transit system.Find the ideas and methods of planning and design of the bus lane and stops. The research is designed to provide theoretical support for planning and construction of bus rapid transit in China,to generalize bus rapid transit systems, and to realize the sustainable development of urban traffic.Firstly, the research focuses on the economy of bus only lane on one-way-three-lane and one-way-four-lane road, based on the total travel time of all road users. The travel time is calculated based on BPR function.Studies on lane resource dynamic allocation method for intercity bus rapid transit of city groups are carried out. Some calculations are made based on the case of Zaozhuang B2 BRT line,to prove the effect of lane resource dynamic allocation, which is certified to significantly improve the economics of BRT line of lower frequencies.Secondly, the research focuses on the capacity of BRT stops, mainly based on the method from Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual. The calculations of the capacity of five different types of stops, with no overtaking lane, with one substation, with two substations, with three substations, and with four substations are carried out.The land use of bus stops are calculated based on the existing standards. The comparison of the space efficiency among different stop layouts is based on the factor of dividing the stop capacity by the stop land use.The result proves it is not economic for stations with multi-substations.Finally,a comparison of capacity between bus lanes and stops are carried out,as well as the calculation of containable bus line number of bus lanes and stops under the average departure frequency. The design recommendations on line number of existing standards are found unable to achieve optimum efficiency of BRT system. The network structure and the principles and technique of BRT network are proposed based on the theoretical research and practical experience.
