Interior Design Research On Community Apartment For The Elderly Based On Environmental Psychology

China has been in the aging society for nearly 20 years,and is estimated to enter the super aging society in 2020 according to Global Network,along with a series of elderly-related security issues in life,living,service,etc.The life quality of the elderly will be directly affected,leading to poor physical quality,lacking sense of belonging,listlessness,negative life attitude,etc.,if the problems above are not properly solved.As a result,the elderly-related issues is the first and foremost during our social stabilization and development.Among all,the core problem of the elderly is the housing.It is now in dire need to solve the problem that how to accommodate the elderly with a comfortable and stable living environment for the elderly.Through the investigation and comparison of apartments for the elderly at home and abroad,it is found that China initially slow to care for the aging society,causing pension facilities to be imperfect.Most apartments for the elderly are designed from the perspective of ordinary people rather than the elderly,ignoring the supplementary role of interior design.However,interior design of apartments for the elderly in foreign countries is more elderly-centered,paying more attention to details and giving more thought to the elderly’s daily life.As design is to solve the problem,it needs to understand all the elderly’s features and their urgent psychological demands before design.Accordingly,from the perspective of the elderly’s living experience,this thesis applies three parts as the theoretical foundation of this research,including ecological perception of environmental psychology,cognitive map,and spatial behavior,selects the apartment for the elderly with the community as its service radius,and analyzes the elderly’s physiological characteristics,psychological characteristics and behavioral characteristics.To understand the physiological and psychological needs of the elderly living in community apartments via interviews and investigations,as well as to combine knowledge of environmental psychology,it starts from meeting their living demands and aims to design a living space that perfectly suits the elderly living,make the elderly have a comfortable,pleasant,independent health pension environment,significantly enhancing the environmental quality of community apartment for the elderly.The research always focuses on the elderly and reflects the humanistic concern.Combined with systematic design plan,the research is aimed at providing a reference and suggestion for the future community apartments of the elderly through the design practice which is on the theoretical basis of environmental psychology.
