As the domestic chemical industry step into the structural adjustment period, the government has increased the chemical industry standard to promote energy conservation, and the chlor-alkali industry also has entered a critical period of transformation and upgrading, chlor-alkali enterprises need to improve the economic benefit and social benefit by energy saving, reducing energy consumption and reducing operating cost to improve the economic and social benefits. In the highly competitive market environment, considering promoting the product in the market as soon as possible with less investment and profit maximization, the project duration of traditional project management is too long and too much human resources investment can not meet the demand of owners, while EPC contract mode effectively solve the contradictions, the owners only need to request the function and the duration of the project, choose a suitable engineering general contractor, the owners can focus on the product pre-feasibility study and post-marketing operation, and most of the risk can be transferred to the general contractor. Therefore, EPC contract mode is accepted by a growing number of owners.BCMC is the only specialized company in China providing complete chlor-alkali engineering services, including research, design, manufacture,maintenance and reconstruction. with good technical resources advantage and the huge market opportunities, BCMC develop actively the EPC project business to meet the need of customer, while creating value for customers and enhancing market competitiveness. But under the EPC contract mode, general contractors take most risk of the project, requiring relatively strong project management ability, especially risk controlling ability.This paper, based on the real situation of BCMC and system analysis of EPC contract and risk management theory, preliminarily summarize the main risks of EPC contract in chlor-alkali project, through analyzing the advantage of the company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats by SWOT analysis method, summarizing the literature, interviewing the project-related people of the company. Based on this, classify these risks from factors dimension, time dimension and environmental dimension of project risk five-dimensional decomposition method, then form a risk list and a risk questionnaire. Then conclude top ten risk factors by the risk questionnaires research, and analyze the reason of the ten risk factors and internal relation between them. Finally, further confirm the necessity of risk management in EPC project management by a case study.
