Bridge engineering is one of the important parts of traffic. With the vigorous development of the transportation in China, complex hydrogeological conditions and the development of economy, the bridge construction is facing more and higher challenges. To accelerate the construction of Bridges, it must rely on the improvement of technology and the scientific organization and quality control. So that the safety and durability of bridge engineering, once it is used, can be ensured.In this paper, the engineering quality problems of the project, Fanli bridge, were concluded for example an acceptance of the qualified rate is low including Level Ⅰ welds and Level Ⅱ welds, high strength bolt, paint coating, the size of the steel box girder, steel box girder installation accuracy, etc.. Causes of these problems in the earlier stage of the project were analyzed, which mainly include as follows: poor quality management consciousness, imperfect quality management system, lacking of employee incentive and evaluation mechanism, multiple management contradiction, inspection potential safety hazards on account of unfulfillment inspections, etc. Then, based on the three stages of quality control principles and the 4M1 E method, the influence factors of engineering quality management were concluded. After that, a series of effect factors were referred using the fishbone figure. Further analysis was performed on the fishbone figure and two kinds of control scale models were established. Through the analysis improvement methodologies were put forward which include five aspects, as follows: Enhancing the quality management consciousness; Establishing orderly quality management process; Sounding system of quality management; Strictly controlling the quality of raw materials and the use of modern management means. Also case study of the slip of steel box girder segments was analyzed based on the above five aspects. Finally, due to the successful application of quality improvement program, the quality of the Fanli bridge got obvious enhancement which is far higher than the average level in the province, from the perspective of the qualitative analysis of the field quality management and practical testing data of quantitative comparison as well.The effective combination of 4M1 E method and three stages of quality control principle can be used in quality control which has a remarkable result, which has been verified in the Fanli bridge on account of considerable improvements of quality management. Actually, Fanli bridge provided a good reference for the domestic similar bridge constructions. Furthermore, according to the engineering practice to develop the corresponding quality of bridge management system and combining mature theories of quality management can effectively improve the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of quality management.
