Since China's reform and opening up,along with the rapid economic development,the city motor vehicle number has increased dramatically.Especially in near ly a decade,when more and more people enjoy the convenient and comfortable life that motor vehicle bring,problems followed such as traffic congestion,emissions also greatly restricts the development of economy and society.We know that the key sections of the urban traffic congestion is urban road intersection,so we need to improve road capacity,then we can minim ize city intersection delay furthest.There are several ways to ease traffic congestion,including widening pavement,building viaduct,etc.,but these methods because of lack of land for roads and limited use.In addition,there is a method called tim ing optim izat ion for single intersection,but the result of this "themselves" optim ization is not coordinated between each intersection,which can cause some intersection congestion seriously.Although domestic and foreign scholars have done research in this area,but there are still some deficiencies.This paper launched a study from the perspective of urban arterial coordinat ion control.First of all,this paper introduces the research background and development status of traffic signal control,and makes an analysis on the problems.Secondly,the paper introduces the basic parameters of traffic signal,the basic control method of traffic signal and the evaluat ion index of control effect,and the main way of coordinated control system are analyzed.In this paper,the coordinated control of the urban main road signal is discussed,and the design basis and design idea of the control system are further clarif ied.The two kinds of phase difference optimizat ion technology in arterial road coordinate control are described,especially for the three methods of maximum green wave band in detail.After that,the basic principle and the main steps of the coordinated control scheme are summarized.At last,taking the main road of Xi'an Zhuque street as an example,the arterial coordinat ion control is carried out for several adjacent intersections.VISSIM4.3 simulat ion software is used to further verify the effectiveness of coordinated control.The results show that the vehicle delay,queue length and other indicators are signif icantly reduced after the arterial coordination control,which show that the coordinated control scheme is effective.
