The Research On Architecture Techniques Of Traditional Dwellings In Adaptive Reuse

In China,after having taken some painful lessons of "destroy the old and build the new"in 1980s,the architecture heritage of traditional dwellings has been poured attention into gradually since the end of twentieth century.The research and practice work for its protection,regeneration and adaptive reuse have been carried out.Most of the researches focus on the space transformation,but lack of the research on techniques.As a link of design and result,technique is an important part of architecture,which covers a wide range,involving craftsmen,tools,processes,details,etc.Traditional dwellings after the adaptive reuse in Southern Jiangsu are used as the carrier in this thesis.Through on-the-spot investigations,in-depth interviews with craftsmen and analysing cases of traditional dwellings adaptive reuse at home and abroad,summaring techniques,including the evolution of traditional dwelling construction skills and modern techniques.The thesis follows the framework "background-an overview of the traditional dwelling construction skills-the investigation and study on current situation-techniques of refurbishment-techniques of addition-summary,reflection and prospect".And it’s divided into six parts.The introduction starts with the definition,the research status,the purpose and significance of the research and the method and framework.Chapter 1 focuses on the characteristic and evolution of traditional dwelling construction skills in South Jiangsu.Chapter 2 introduces the scope of investigation and the process of traditional dwellings adaptive reuse.Analyzing and summarizing the current situation of the traditional dwellings before and after adaptive reuse to make clear the direction of development.Also,it plays the role of the link in this thesis.Chapter 3 analysis the techniques of refurbishment from base,body and roof basing on the researched cases.Chapter 4 describes the techniques of addition from the roof,toilet,stair and so on basing on the researched cases.Chapter 5 summarizes the application of adaptive reuse techniques and provides a reference in the future.The purpose of this thesis is to sum up the reasonable construction techniques through the research of techniques in the process of traditional dwellings adaptive reuse.Taking adaptive construction skills is conducive to the protection of traditional dwellings of the form,structure,material and skills.It also makes for the traditional architecture culture passing on,and traditional dwellings better adapt to modern life.
