The aging of the population is a universal problem facing all countries today, with a large proportion of the elderly living in isolation and widowed children,a large part of the elderly population. The relatively isolated form of living brought by urbanization has also increased the isolation of elderly living alone at home, and brought a series of problems to life.Among them, elderly people living alone in urban areas are one of the more important aspects of their sleep. This article actively explores ways to use the empathy to design and study the elderly.Based on the traditional process, this paper puts forward the process of "creating consensus-user experience-driven-exploring user value" Really back to the user-centered thinking. In the specific design process,we foacus on the understanding of the cognitive characteristics of the elderly living alone in the city, the excavation of insight points in personal experience and the collaborative innovation design process.Through the integration of relevant information and practical interviews to investigate the urban elderly living alone on the way to sleep problems and get five cognitive characteristics of the elderly sleep problems. To further explore the relevant experience of urban elderly living alone to explore the three key issues affecting their sleep problems, and as a specific product design strategy direction. The value of using empathy to design and study elderly people living alone in the city is based on their physical and psychological needs to create products that are well-functioning and interactive. This value is the process of mutual understanding with the elderly in collaborative design practice, and also brings forth new ideas for the socialization of aging.
