Study On The Children's Activity Space Of Changsha Old Block Under Urban Renewal Process

In the past half a century,China has experienced an unprecedented scale of urban renewal and development.However,the consequent changes of road mobility and high-rise buildings make the relationship between children and the city conflicted.Confronting the intensive relation between children and urban space under the onslaught of modern development,and the condition that child friendliness should be improved,this paper takes the representative old blocks in Changsha center city as example,studies children's daily behavioral pattern,spatial characteristics and social network in the area where old and new buildings coexist,makes analysis and evaluation on them,and then put forward some feasible transformation advice from the perspective of creating child friendly city.This paper is composed of the following five parts.Part one:introduction.Make a brief exposition of object and background of this study,indicate precious research results and deficiencies that still exist through the summary of research situation at home and abroad,and then expounds the objective and significance,feasible idea and methods of the thesis.Part two:the basic theory research.As a theoretical preparation of specific research and analysis process,this part mainly discuss the relationship between children and environment,the psychological and behavioral characteristics of children's outdoor activities,and on this basis propose the environmental friendly evaluation index including spacious,availability and safety.Part three:the investigation of children's activity space in the old block of Changsha.Lock the research range and object,make a research of the situation of open space,children's daily activities,the routes between home and school,and the social network in a 500 meter radius centered on three schools in the old block of Changsha,through the questionnaire,interview,tracking,school path map and other methods.Part four:the study of children's activity space in the old block of Changsha.Make a summary of the characteristics of children's outdoor activities in the old block,analyze the space of routes as well as stay points between home and school,explore the effectiveness of social network from the perspective of children's horizontal and vertical partnership,and then come up with the problems and future expectations of children's activity space in the old block.Part five:the strategy of child friendly transformation of old block.Learn from other countries' streets renovation experience based on children,summarized the block transformation concept including safety,continuity,interest,symbiosis and participation,and on this basis propose feasible strategies and plan of old block transformation in Changsha."Child friendly" is not only the index and direction of the future development of a city,but also a kind of design concept based on children.This paper aims at the needs of children which are the most vulnerable users of the environment,handles the relationship between children's space requirement and cities' development through the appropriate scale of block transformation,so as to create a more suitable physical environment for children's play and independent travel.
