Hoffmann kiln is a kind of industrial buildings mainly used in the manufacture of sintered brick tiles in the rural environment,it is the primary demand for the designers and producers to strictly control the cost of construction and production,so it is reasonable to deal with the low-technology strategies.In contrast to the current architectural design,one-sided emphasizing on architectural forms,styles and ignoring the objective environmental conditions,keeps architectural creation away from human life,and results in the irrationality of technique and general rootless of cultural,this phenomenon should arouse more vigilance.In the contemporary architectural context that green building concept is rising,the environmental adaptability reflected in the construction model of the Huffmann kiln in China needs to be studied intensively,so that its intrinsic architectural value could be explored,and can provide theoretical reference for architectural creation,provide basic information for renovation and utilization,it is the urgent need for the present.The Hoffmann Kiln was designed by German F.E.Hoffinan in 1856,spreading into China at the end of the 19th century.Although the working principle of Huffman Kiln "prototype" has always been used for nearly 120 years in China,Huffimann Kiln has changed dramatically in many aspects such as architectural structure,space,materials,and even the form of the system.Take an example,"Trench kiln" derives from the early Huffinann Kiln while you cannot find any similarities between them in appearance.What happened during this time that led to such a tremendous change?This study focuses on the architectural perspective,the related database was established by field investigation and typological analysis of 218 production sites of clay brick using Huffmann kiln.Based on the construction mode and the theory of environment adaptability,this research explores the environmental impact factors of the "evolution" of the Chinese Hoffmann Kiln.The thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the establishment of research theory,which mainly includes the research background,the definition of research category and subjects,the identifying of research objective,the review of basic related research,the establishment of research methods,and the establishment of research scheme and technical route.The second chapter introduces the development process of Huffmann kiln at home and abroad,and its working principle and the operation mechanism of brick factory.In the third chapter,the database of Huffmann kiln in China is established according to different geographical division method,and the area development of Huffmann kiln is sorted out.The fourth chapter is the environmental adaptability analysis of the construction model of Huffmann kiln in China,which is the research focus of this thesis,it can be divided into two parts,technical mode and project mode.For technical mode dominated by the designers,it mainly analyzes the design strategies of site selection,structure composition,material and construction,equipment system and passive fresh air system in the process of environmental adaptation.For project mode dominated by the producers,it discusses the project management methods,construction operating methods and manufacturing methods,combined with the practice of construction process.The fifth chapter is the discussion and reflection of this reserch,it points out the necessity of the study of environmental adaptability of the construction model of Huffmann kiln in China and the shortcomings and prospects of this research.
