| Traditional villages embody thousands of years’ history,splendid culture and profound culture of China.Nowadays,with the rapid development of urbanization,researches on the protection and renovation of public space of traditional villages become hot topics.In the western region of Beijing,ancient trading routes wind across the mountains and rivers along which numbers of vigorous villages were built since one thousand years ago and form the natural texture.However,with the hollowing out of villages,the public space in traditional villages is not as vigorous as before.Based on the field surveys of villages along the ancient trading routes,qualitative analysis of their traits and quantitative digital models of public space,this thesis puts forwards a novel strategy on the conservation of cultural characteristics of public space of traditional villages.This thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter mainly illustrates the current academic researches,policies and issues of traditional villages,explains the research objects,contents and methods and illuminates the theoretical and practical values of the research.The second chapter focuses on the selection of traditional villages as objects of studies based on cultural characteristics in western Beijing region,respectively analyzing the ancient histories,functions and present situations of trading routes and elucidating their historical and cultural connotations and geographic analysis of the terrain of the region.The third chapter analyzes the influential factors of public space of villages in both natural and social aspects respectively and summarizes the categories of public space of villages in western Beijing.The fourth chapter analyzes the public space of villages from two dimensions of Gestalt psychology and the theory of self-organizing system,determines the public space nodes based on terrain texture and the figure and ground relationship.A joint analysis of the objective situation and the psychological portrait of villages is conducted based on the theory of field theory.The comparative study on the formal and informal public space is carried out to resolve their differences and similarities as well as their internal relations.In the fifth chapter,the village public space is abstracted into planar models after conversions and calculations based on the theory of space syntax.Through the contrast of quantitative values and visualization of parameters,the thesis further analyzes the cores of the space of villages,the relationship between the whole and parts and intelligibilities of the current villages in western Beijing.In the sixth chapter,the characteristics of public space of villages are to summarized and the cores of public space in the villages is determined through qualitative analysis and quantitative calculation.Furthermore,the design and suggestions on the revitalization of traditional public space is proposed from academic and villagers’ perspectives. |
