At present, the application of shaped charge technology on land is very mature. With the substantial improvement of modern submarine protection capabilities, traditional blasting torpedo warheads have been difficult to cause heavy damage to modern submarines. Therefore, the application of shaped charge technology to torpedo warheads has become an important development direction for improving the damage capabilities of torpedoes. In order to carry out the design of shaped torpedo warheads better and increase the damage of modern submarines,On the basis of previous work, this paper designed three types of shaped charges, which can form three different types of shaped penetrator(ordinary jet,rod jet,and explosively formed projectile). And the target parameters of submarine shell were determined through the analysis of American and Russian attack submarine. Then, under the condition of hydrostatic pressure, the nonlinear dynamics software AUTODYN-2D was used to simulate the explosive forming process of three shaped torpedo warheads in water and the action process to target. Then compared with the forming motion process of shaped torpedo warhead in air and the damage effect of blasting torpedo warhead on target of submarine shell. The research indicates:(1)The explosively forming process of shaped torpedo warheads in water and air is quite different, mainly manifested in the attenuation of head speed and the change in shape of penetrator after it invades water medium. The initial kinetic energy of shaped penetrator formed by underwater explosion is slightly lower than that in air.(2)When shaped penetrator invades water medium, the ordinary jet and rod-type jet head will be worn out,and the deformation of explosively formed projectile will gradually become serious. The velocity attenuation of ordinary jet head is the fastest,rod-type jet is the second and explosively formed projectile is the slowest, but it's rate of attenuation is the largest.(3)For the single layer target, the damage effect of explosively formed projectile charge on target plate is the best, and the deformation and perforation of target plate are larger than that of ordinary jet and rod-type jet charge.Under the condition of non-contact explosion(L=0D~2D),the damage effect of explosively formed projectile charge to target plate will be better.(4)For the twolayer spacer target, ordinary jet and rod-type jet charge can penetrate completely, but the perforation aperture of rear target is too small. And explosively formed projectile charge cannot effectively damage the target, the main reason is that explosively formed projectile loses it's penetration ability due to it's relatively rapid speed attenuation and deformation in the process of penetrating water layer.(5)Aluminum is a kind of ideal liner material, and the shaped penetrator formed by it gradually wears out during the process of penetrating water medium, but it can form a better cavity. It is used to open up channel for latter-grade penetrator, which can preserve the penetration ability of latter-stage penetrator to rear target of the two-layer spacer target. In the future, for single-hull submarines, shaped torpedo warhead should use explosively shaped projectile charges as the main research direction.for double-hull submarines, tandem warhead should be the main research direction. This paper proposes that breaking-breaking tandem warheads with aluminum liner as pre-charge is a solution to improve the damage capability to double-hull submarine and deserve further study.
