In addition to the rise of Global Supply Chain concepts and Green Logistics,enterprises are seeking to control their logistical costs making oceanic shipping the primary mode of transportation for shippers.With the continued growth in oceanic business,D company has become the leader in the shipping industry based on volume.But due to the complicated and time-consuming booking processing of oceanic shipment,clients are unsatisfied with D company's competency.Furthermore,some duplicated processes are complicating the lengthy booking-cycle time.Thus,the optimization of current booking procedures is critical for D company to improve its competence in the oceanic shipping business and increase customer satisfaction.This thesis introduces the current business status and booking procedures of D company by using IDEFO Model and ASME analysis to study the current booking procedure and analyze various models within the current procedures of D company,including:models of Official Booking Order Verification;Price Confirmation;Official Booking Order Processing;Space Adjustment;Booking Order Adjustment and Fulfillment,calculation of root causes resulting in overlong booking-cycle time and duplicated processing.Based on this analysis,recommendations for completing the reengineering of current booking procedures and policies,shortened booking-cycle times,elimination of duplicated processes,and the resulting improvement of their oceanic shipping business competence of D company will be discussed.In this thesis,D company will be used as an example of how to optimize oceanic shipment booking procedures by reducing the time-frame and workload to D company and thereby improving customer satisfaction and maintaining its market-leading position.The new procedure of D Company could be a reference for other international forwarders or shipping lines to optimize or reengineer their own procedures in the shipping industry.
