With the development of modern communication technology,the optical fiber communication technology has been used widely,the technology of electronic transformer and the intelligent circuit breaker has also matured and become more reliable,especially the agreement based on IEC61850 communication protocol has been promulgated.Finally,the technology of current substation automation has made long-term progress.In this situation,to realize the purpose of “strong and smart grid”,the construction of intelligent substation based on IEC61850 communication protocol has become an inevitable choice.The security and stability operation of the power grid is limited by the hardware level of the equipment such as electromagnetic saturation of transformer in conventional substation,interactive operation between different devices,the complexity of the secondary circuit and electromagnetic interference.The "three-tier two networks" and other emerging technologies have been used in intelligent substation and solved the above problems effectively.But meanwhile,the application of new technology has also brought new challenges to site installation,commissioning and post-operation and maintenance,such as the application of virtual terminal and the single debugging of smart components.The main technical characteristics and key technologies for intelligent substation have been researched in this paper,which based on the evolution of intelligent substation.It has deduced the development process of the configuration scheme of intelligent substation and studied the practical application of the configuration scheme of intelligent substation.At the meantime,intelligent substation commissioning process and post-management and maintenance prone to fault condition have been made a deep analysis,the typical defects of intelligent substation based on the case has also been discussed and accumulated experience for the future intelligent substation construction,testing and management maintenance.
