Penaeus vannamei, one of the eurythermic euryhaline aquaculture species, can live and grow normally in fresh water ponds with 1‰ salinity by gradually desalination technology, and the growth cycle from baby shrimp to commodity shrimp is very short, about 60 days. Through the promotion of aquaculture, the Penaeus vannamei has become an excellent species with high yield and high income in freshwater ponds, the region of aquaculture ranges from coastal aquaculture to inland freshwater aquaculture ponds. Although the aquaculture technology of Penaeus vannamei in inland is very successful with a certain scale, due to the influence of temperature and climate, it is undeveloped in Shanxi. Because Shanxi is located in the inland areas, and the farming soil is alkaline salt, the breed species are mainly common fish. The economic benefit is low and the waste of resources is serious. To enrich the varieties of aquaculture in Shanxi, improve the market competition of products, and the Penaeus vannamei was introduced for breeding to explore a successful model of healthy shrimp culture which can improve the economic benefit, conserve the culture resources in Shanxi. Thus, in this study, the desalination and aquaculture technology of Penaeus vannamei was researched based on its euryhaline characteristics and the actual situation of Shanxi province. In this experiment, the P. vannamei indoor desalination technology and three different farming models were used, including the monoculture of shrimp, carp, polyculture of carp and shrimp or silver carp (bighead carp) and shrimps in order to explore reasonable farming model in Shanxi province. The experiments were divided into three groups of A, B and C cultured in 9 cement slope protection ponds of 4000 m~2. The group A contained shrimp 100 thousand tail/667 square meters; the group B contained 400 g carp 900 tails/667 square meters,4000 silver carp per quare meter of and 2000 bighead carp/667 square meters, and 20 thousand shrimp per 667 square meters; the group C contained 900 carp/400g per 667 square meters,4000 silver carp per 667 square meters, and 2000 bighead carp per 667 square meters. The test time was 92 days during which the water quality indicators, such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, pH, were regularly determined and the growth indicators, such as body length and body weight were measured. The results showed that the breeding combination mode of shrimp and local carp increased farming benefit by 1305.67 ?/667 m~2, while the investment benefit of monoculture mode of shrimp was the highest and input-output ratio reached 1:1.49 although the change of water quality indexes were relatively severe and the yield stability was low.
